INTRODUCTION
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, established in 1957 by the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, in its long eventful journey has constantly striven to live up to its motto, "आनोभद्राःक्रतवोयन्तुविश्वतः" (Let noble thoughts come to me from all directions) by assimilating diverse ideas, people and beliefs into its academic life. The University, named after the great political thinker, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya is located in the holy city of Gorakhpur and inherits the spiritual and philosophical legacy of Buddha, Kabir and Guru Gorakshnath. Spread over 191.21 acres, it houses 06 faculties comprising of 29 departments that have been playing a significant role in providing Higher Education, Training and Research. Gorakhpur is the place of cultural importance as the ‘Cradle of Buddhism’, its rich culture, vibrant atmosphere, different heritage sites and religious places of worship make it an important and famous tourist destination, the whole region attracts huge number of Domestic and International Tourists. Perceiving the significance of professionally trained manpower in the judicious exploitation of country’s extra-ordinary tourism-magnetism and the underlying opportunities for the young generation in the entrepreneurial, service, academic and research sectors of the fast growing travel, hospitality industry and food sciences, Bachelor of hotel management & catering technology was incepted by the DDU Gorakhpur University on its campus in the academic session 2021-22 under the aegis of Faculty of Commerce. It stands alone in the category of Hotel management institutes in Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. Currently, It is offering Four year full time Degree programme along with Lowest fee structure in Uttar Pradesh. The BHMCT is credited to be one of the first academic centers in the whole UP region to offer a professional degree study programme in Hotel Management & Catering Technology. Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, DDU Gorakhpur University focuses on Human Resource Training for the Hotel Industry, along with imparting knowledge and skills in all major areas of Hospitality Industry.
Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Vice-chancellor Prof. Poonam Tandon the Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology has been established in the main campus of the university and commenced its first batch in academic session 2021-22. The HMCT achieved newer heights under the Coordinatorship of Dr. Ruchika Singh of Geography Department and Dr. Ashok Kumar of Botany Department. Department enlarged its wings under Assistant Coordinators namely Dr. Anupam Singh of the Education Department and Mr. Deependra Mohan Singh of Sociology Department. At present, HMCT Coordinator is Dr. Anshu Gupta, Department of Commerce and assistant Coordinator is Dr. Meetu Singh, Department of Education. Under their leadership HMCT is making rapid strides. The objective of the BHMCT programme is to impact quality training and education in the field of Hospitality Industry which offer students the opportunity to develop professional and academic excellence having an overview of a rewarding career in Hotels, Restaurants and allied service professions. We assist our students developing their personality with due emphasis to discipline, attitude, dedication, and commitment along with imparting knowledge and professional skill.
