About Department

INTRODUCTION
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University (DDUGU), established in 1957 under the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, has, throughout its long and eventful journey, consistently strived to uphold its motto: "आ नो भद्राः क्रतवो यन्तु विश्वतः"(“Let noble thoughts come to me from all directions”). This guiding principle is reflected in the University’s inclusive academic culture that embraces diverse ideas, communities, and beliefs. Named in honor of the distinguished political thinker Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, the University is situated in the holy city of Gorakhpur. It carries forward the spiritual and philosophical heritage of luminaries such as Buddha, Kabir, and Guru Gorakhnath. Spanning 191.21 acres, the University encompasses six faculties and 29 departments, each contributing meaningfully to higher education, research, and professional training. Gorakhpur, revered as the “Cradle of Buddhism,” is of significant cultural importance. With its deep-rooted heritage, vibrant atmosphere, historic landmarks, and religious sites, the city serves as a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists. In response to the growing demand for professionally trained personnel in the hospitality and tourism sectors—and recognizing the potential of these industries to offer abundant opportunities in entrepreneurship, services, research, and academia—DDU Gorakhpur University established the Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) program in the academic year 2021–22. This program, launched under the Faculty of Commerce, is the first of its kind in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh and is offered as a four-year full-time degree with the most affordable fee structure in the state. As one of the pioneering institutes in the region to offer a professional degree in Hotel Management and Catering Technology, the program focuses on human resource development for the hospitality industry, offering comprehensive education in key domains of the sector. It is dedicated to fostering professional competence alongside personal growth, with emphasis on discipline, dedication, and industry-oriented skills. The BHMCT program is thriving under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Poonam Tandon and the deanship of Prof. Shrivardhan Pathak, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce. The growth of the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (IHMCT) has also been guided by a succession of dedicated coordinators:

1. Prof. Rajesh Kumar Singh – June 2021 to 18 May 2022
2. Dr. Ruchika Singh – 19 May 2022 to 15 March 2023
