About Department

The Department of Physical Education was included in the statute of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur in the year 2014, as the 03rd department under the Faculty of Education.
Physical Education as an elective subject for the students at graduation level (B.A./B.Sc.) was included in the University curriculum in the session 2011-2012. Since then, more than 10 batches of students with physical education as an elective subject have successfully passed out from university campus. The program of Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) is currently being taught in 04 affiliated colleges, that is also regulated by the Department of Physical Education.
Responding to the increased demand of post graduate program in physical education, the program of M.A. in Physical Education under self-finance scheme was started in the session 2021-2022. The program of Ph.D. in Physical Education is also running successfully since
2019.Presently all these program are running successfully in CBCS pattern.

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur of Uttar Pradesh should be known for its excellence in producing competent Physical Educationists, researchers, sportsperson and students who together with one-another would create a culture of physical education & sports in the country to promote a healthy and physically active lifestyle for everyone.

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT
1. To prepare qualitatively and professionally competent Physical Educationists, researchers and teachers with focus on future challenges.
2. To enable researchers to conduct quality researches in the field of physical education and sports sciences.
3. To provide technical, professional and academic leadership to the other allied institutions of Physical Education.
4. To provide vocational guidance and placement services to the people in the field of Physical Education.
5. To provide a program that is continually evolving and improving, in both content and structure that focuses on acquisition of skills for professional development.
