In order to meet the long felt need of management education in eastern Uttar Pradesh with a view to prepare a cadre of professional managers to support industrial development of this region, MBA Program was started by the Department of Commerce, DDU Gorakhpur University in 1995. The program was approved by AICTE, Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

10th January 2001 was a red letter-day for management education in this region when an independent Department of Business Administration was created in the Faculty of Commerce. The inauguration of a magnificent separate building with its computer lab, conference hall and library by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Raj Nath Singh on Feb. 3, 2001, has been another milestone in this short life span of management education in the University.

In addition to classroom teaching, The Department conducts a number of activities like presentation, quiz, debate, essay writing and visits to industrial houses for the all-around development of the personality of students. Students are required to undergo training for six weeks in the industrial houses of repute. This gives them an opportunity to give a feel of real-life business situations.
