About the Department:
The Department of Ag. Entomology within the Institute of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. It achieves excellence in teaching entomology to undergraduate students and conducting problem-oriented research. The Department of Entomology came into existence with the start of the B. Sc. (Ag.) degree in the year 2020, with the objective of achieving excellence in teaching entomology to undergrads and conducting problem-oriented research with farmers. The department started M.Sc.(Ag.) Entomology in 2020, which essentially provides basic and applied science curricula and specialized skills for profitable employment.
The main goal of fundamental scientific research in agricultural entomology is to under stand the genetics of insect pest populations, insecticide toxicology, pesticide residues in the food chain, comprehensive investigations on beneficial insects, insect biosystematics, host plant resistance, and eco-friendly crop pest management. We encourage research, integrative, and application-based entomological research ranging from environmental landscapes to biological molecules. The department offers fascinating but scientifically, agriculturally, and ecologically relevant research and training as part of undergraduate and graduate education from a faculty of nationally and internationally known academics who consider our work from a global viewpoint.
Conservation and promotion of crop-specific pollinators for enhancing crop productivity, biological control, toxicology, and taxonomic studies for agriculturally important insects, development of crop, area, and season-specific pest calendars, and pest management modules for the country are all mission mode programmes.
