About Department
Department of Education was established in the year 1957 among the six founding departments of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. Prof. M. Verma was the founder Head of the Department and Prof. S.P. Chaubey was the founder dean of the faculty. Several distinguished educationists have been contributing for prosperity and academic richness of the department. Prof V S Mishra is one of the eminent educationists of the department whose contribution were in academic as well as administrative areas with positions in various international bodies situated in USA, UK, Japan etc.
Currently the department is situated in Maharana Pratap Premise with lush green campus and state-of-the art facilities. Total four programs are being offered to the students that counts two professional programs namely Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Masters of Education (M.Ed.) along with Masters of Arts in Education and Doctoral Program. Certificate program in School leadership and Early Childhood Care and Education are recently started. Department emphasis on continuous research work in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary area with rigor to achieve academic excellence. Department aims at enriched campus life experience for students hence academic events, cultural activities and community related active participation are always ensured and get priority in balanced way. Department regularly invites renowned and exceled people from all walks of life to deliver their talks and to interact with students. It is the pride of the department that most of the alumni are having good places in various areas and contribute for the development of the department in every possible manner. The placement records of the department always put star mark to its glory.
Department strive for the progress of it in very contemporaneous manner hence curricula are revised regularly. In this context, department started all the programs following CBCS pattern and recommendations of NEP 2020 and contain courses such as curriculum development, policy, planning and administration, Internationalisation of Education Inclusive Education; Education for Marginalised section, Environment Education etc. The department will focus on introducing special teacher education program at B.Ed. and M.Ed. level. This will try to increase inclusion of students with special needs. The department is planning to become the centre of excellence in studies related to recent developments in policy context. The department is heading forward with charismatic leadership of Prof Shobha Gaur (Head and Dean of the faculty) with remarkable working style, enthusiasm for betterment of the faculty as well as students and unquenched desire to elevate the work environment of the department in healthy and positive manner.
