Gorakhpur University women welfare association (GUWWA) was stablished in January 2014 under the able guidance of Prof. Vinod Solanki with the aim of catering to the needs and overall welfare of women teachers-employees and students of this university. Women in India are the core strength of the family society and institutions. The number of women-teachers employees and girl-students is quite significant in D.D.U. Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur and this number has been consistently increasing over the years. It is realized that a collective effort has to be made for the enhancement of women contribution in restructuring society. Since 2015 300 Vipula Dubey is the president of GUWWA.
The other important aims of this association are to increase women's participation in the corporate life of the university and to provide a forum for the solution of the problems of women teachers-employees and students. The association is also aims to provide opportunities for social cultural and academic activities for women in the University campus as well as to provide them appropriate facilities as per their needs. However the main area of concern is women rights and the focus is on women's studies.
GUWWA was constituted to eradicate the discrimination against women and also to provide protection to them against exploitation and harassment. It aims to organize awareness programs lectures seminars on women studies workshops and competitions, discourages on current social issues, interstate cultural charity programs theatre etc. It will also seek corporation with other pressure group to solve common issues and to arrange lectures by women activists. Personality development programmes along with the information regarding career guidance to women will also be provided by GUWWA. Today's fund for giving incentives to meritorious women students is one of the main aim of GUWWA.
